How to write a cover letter

Applying for a job often requires preparing a cover letter to be sent with a CV. Some may think that writing this letter is difficult, but the following video explains in a simple way the steps to follow to write a good cover letter.

 

A cover letter is a text that includes information about your skills and experience but does not repeat the elements of the CV. Usually, employers use a cover letter as a means of screening applicants for available positions and identifying candidates they intend to interview.

 

The cover letter includes the reasons why you are interested in working in the organization to which you have applied, and how your experience and skills match the requirements of the job.

 

To write a cover letter, follow the below steps:

- Begin by mentioning your name, address, email, and mobile number. They can be written on one line or each piece of information on a separate line.

- The date you wrote the letter.

- The name of the recipient of the letter.

- Company name and address. If you don't know the recipient's name, simply write "Recruitment Manager".

- Then start by saluting and drafting the text of the letter, which should consist of approximately three paragraphs.

 

  • The first paragraph is introductory:

- It includes the job you are applying for.

- How did you find out about the job?

- Your enthusiasm about it.

 

  • Second Paragraph:

- List the main achievements, skills, and specializations that make you suitable for this job.

- Tip: List the skills mentioned in the job advertisement.

- You can talk about your achievements in numbers.

 

  • The last paragraph:

- Summarize the reasons that make you a suitable candidate for the job.

- Explain that you will be waiting to hear back from the employer and that you would appreciate the opportunity of an interview.

- Don’t forget to thank the employer for their time and consideration of your letter.

 

End the letter with a signature, such as “Sincerely,” and your name on the following line. To avoid having a boring letter, you should avoid the following mistakes that are frequently repeated, such as using redundant phrases or phrases that are not directly related to the content of the letter. It is reported that hiring managers read hundreds of cover letters and get tired of the clichéd things, and are waiting for something new from your side.
